Introduction to the Migrant Workers Portal in Jordan

Hundreds of thousands of migrant workers operate in various sectors in Jordan, including those with legal work permits and a significant number working without proper documentation, making their exact count challenging due to the absence of a comprehensive official database. Despite the numerous legislations governing migrant labor in Jordan, these workers face significant challenges due to the complexity and multiplicity of laws related to their residency and employment, coupled with weak enforcement and compliance monitoring.

Providing accurate, clear, and simplified information for migrant workers is crucial to ensuring their proper understanding of rights and responsibilities. Currently lacking a reliable source offering such information in multiple languages, they become vulnerable to violations, exploitation, and inadvertent breaches of the law.

The Migrant Workers Portal aims to address this substantial gap, offering a trustworthy online platform providing essential information and support for migrant workers in Jordan, catering to the needs of both interested individuals and professionals. The portal will serve as a comprehensive resource covering procedures, laws, rights, and duties, empowering these workers to navigate their work environment with increased confidence and security.

This portal operates under the website of the Jordanian Labor Rights Center “Workers’ House,” specializing in labor affairs, legislation, and studies related to workers, labor relations, and international labor standards.

The portal is available in Arabic, English, and other languages spoken by migrant workers in Jordan, such as Bengali, Hindi, Sinhalese, and Filipino.
